Engineering Specialist (Heat Treatment)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
To be responsible for the machines and furnaces that apply heat treatments for products hardening, quenching, tempering and make it ready for production. To monitor the heat treatment cycle and ensure the products hardness or properties meet the manufacturer’s specifications.

DUTIES:
1. Oversee the operation of heat treatment furnaces and related equipment to ensure smooth and efficient production
2. Monitor process parameters such as temperature, atmosphere composition, and heating/cooling rates to ensure adherence to specifications
3. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and process deviations to minimise downtime and maintain production continuity
4. Analyse heat treatment processes and identify opportunities for optimisation to improve product quality and production efficiency
5. Develop and implement process improvements, such as cycle time reduction, energy efficiency enhancements, and quality control measures
6. Collaborate with the Quality Control department to establish and maintain quality standards for heat-treated ball bearings
7. Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on heat-treated parts to ensure compliance with specifications and customer requirements
8. Provide technical support and expertise to production personnel regarding heat treatment processes, equipment operation, and troubleshooting
9. Train operators and technicians on proper heat treatment procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols
10. Coordinate with maintenance personnel to schedule and perform preventive maintenance on heat treatment furnaces and associated equipment
11. Identify and address equipment maintenance needs to ensure reliability and minimise downtime
12. Maintain accurate records of heat treatment process parameters, production data and quality control measures
13. Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace
14. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and determine effective corrective actions to reduce or eliminate the cost of poor quality
15. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance heat treatment processes, reduce costs, and increase productivity
16. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement in quality, productivity and cost reduction
17. Plan and execute improvement projects from conception to completion
18. Compile audit work papers and documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy
19. Assist in the development of audit protocols and procedures
20. Perform other administrative duties as assigned
21. Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment
22. Review and recommend change of Department Procedures for products quality, work environment and safety aspects. (E.g. IATF-16949, ISO-14001 and Safety Management System, etc.).
23. Attend meetings, reviews, discussion and coordinating with Production Supervisors to achieve department objectives, while performing any other instructions required by superiors in the interest of the organisation
24. To plan the efficient utilization of own work time to carry out the above listed duties of the designation and other where applicable, as well as any other specific instructions or assignments given by superior  from time to time, in respect of matters related.
